Chaos Crisis

Tick Tock

Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.

I sit in the kitchen. I do nothing, to not distract myself from watching the clock. There was no reason for worry. If anything went wrong my future self would have informed me already. But maybe he died before he could? Never have I been so anxious about something. Two more minutes, just two more. Two more. Two more.

Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.

My hands are sweaty. Maybe I should go a little sooner? Just a little earlier. I took my suitcase. Just two minutes.

Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.

I stop at the door. What would I do if it had happened? Or if it was still happening? I don’t think I could bear that. Why did I do this? Maybe I should have done it at home, alone. No, no, that wouldn’t help.

Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.

It’s the first time I hear it ticking. It was eerily silent.

Tick. Tock. DING DING DING DONG!

I smiled. I managed to keep calm until the end. Finally it’s time to get Molly back from her first school day. I was sure she had lots of things to tell me about.
